Berkshire SUCC3SS Impact Accelerator: Where Data Meets Community Action

Blackshires Community Empowerment Foundation and Team R3SET partner to drive systemic change for BIPOC communities across Berkshire County

Systemic change does not occur by chance; it requires intentional action, community input, and data-driven solutions. The new Berkshire SUCC3SS Impact Accelerator embodies this approach through a strong partnership between the Blackshires Community Empowerment Foundation and Team R3SET. This initiative aims to transform economic opportunities and foster community development for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) residents throughout Berkshire County.

Born from Community Vision

The story begins in 2020, when Berkshire’s Black community leaders came together to tackle the systemic challenges affecting local BIPOC residents. Through dynamic community “Idea Jams” involving more than 125 participants, three critical priorities emerged:

  • Equity in Arts & Culture
  • Black Health Equity
  • Neighborhood Revitalization

This grassroots process led to creating the Blackshires Community Empowerment Foundation and the award-winning Blackshires Leadership Accelerator. Now, the SUCC3SS Accelerator takes this work to the next level, focusing on these three sectors with unprecedented precision and community partnership.

Our North Star

Mission: Empowering New England BIPOC communities through leadership development, actionable data, and economic investment via cross-sector collaboration.

Vision: A thriving, equitable Berkshire driven by data-informed solutions that sustainably uplift communities.

Three Strategic Focus Areas

1. Equity in Arts & Culture

Unleashing the economic and social power of BIPOC creativity

Arts and culture drive both community connection and economic vitality, yet BIPOC artists consistently face barriers to funding, visibility, and institutional support.

Our Approach:

  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with Mass MoCA, Barrington Stage, Jacob’s Pillow, and other major institutions to increase BIPOC representation and resources
  • Entrepreneurship Support: Targeted workshops and networking events to strengthen cultural business leadership
  • Data-Driven Advocacy: Use comprehensive analysis to secure equitable funding for BIPOC-led arts initiatives

Impact Goal: Create a vibrant, inclusive cultural landscape where BIPOC voices are amplified and cultural equity becomes the standard.

2. Black Health Equity

Addressing disparities that impact both well-being and economic stability

Health disparities not only impact individual outcomes, but they also weaken the overall prosperity and resilience of entire communities.

Our Strategy:

  • Healthcare Partnerships: Work directly with Berkshire Health Systems and community providers to ensure equitable access
  • Community-Led Solutions: Host “Health Equity Fishbowls” where residents identify barriers and co-design culturally responsive solutions
  • Policy Advocacy: Leverage health data analysis to drive targeted healthcare investment and policy change

Impact Goal: Achieve measurable improvements in health outcomes while reducing healthcare disparities across Berkshire’s BIPOC communities.

3. Neighborhood Revitalization

Building community prosperity through equitable development

Sustainable neighborhood development requires more than financial investment; it needs community ownership of both the vision and the process.

Our Framework:

  • Community-Centered Planning: Interactive Idea Jams and Fishbowls with residents, leaders, and planners to shape inclusive development
  • Data-Informed Investment: Identify critical needs in housing affordability, safety, transportation, and infrastructure
  • Strategic Partnerships: Collaborate with the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission and other key stakeholders to ensure community priorities drive revitalization

Impact Goal: Strengthen neighborhood cohesion, safety, and affordability while ensuring equitable resource allocation for lasting community stability.

How We Create Change: Our Four-Step Approach

1. Data Gathering & Integration
Collect comprehensive insights from diverse community stakeholders to build a complete, accurate picture of needs and opportunities.

2. Analysis & Insight Development
Use sophisticated analytics to identify critical challenges and opportunities, ensuring all decisions are informed by evidence.

3. Implementation & Continuous Evaluation
Launch targeted, community-informed projects while continually assessing effectiveness and refining strategies.

4. Scaling & Sustainability
Expand successful initiatives and develop replicable best practices for lasting community empowerment.

Breaking Down Systemic Barriers

The Accelerator directly addresses the root challenges that have historically limited BIPOC community progress:

  • Data Silos: Creating centralized, transparent platforms that coordinate community efforts
  • Inequitable Resource Access: Directing investment where community data shows the greatest need
  • Limited Community Engagement: Building inclusive forums where residents actively shape initiatives
  • Lack of Transparency: Regular reporting that builds trust and sustains community engagement

Measuring What Matters

Success isn’t merely a feeling; it can be measured using specific metrics.

  • Number and scale of implemented community projects
  • Data-driven improvements in policy and resource allocation
  • Community-reported progress in health, economic, and cultural indicators
  • Ongoing stakeholder and community feedback

Regular impact reports ensure transparency, accountability, and continuous community dialogue about our progress.
